How to maintain a healthy balance?

Since March 2020, we have witnessed a reorganization of the work mode into a hybrid formula, accelerated by the pandemic and its effects on our mental and physical health. Faced with this new reality and the blurring of the line between personal and professional life, the JCCM believes it is more than necessary to open the discussion on mental health and the right to disconnect at work!

We asked this question to Habi Gerba, our spokesperson and president, to learn her tips and tricks for maintaining good mental health. Here are the pieces of advice she shared with us:

  1. Keep track of your hours - even though working hard is commendable, sometimes we underestimate the time spent in front of the screen.
  2. Disable notifications - to avoid interruptions.
  3. Find the right time to check your email - to feel prepared to handle all kinds of news.
  4. Organize your schedule - based on your periods of productivity.
  5. Learn to say no - and be comfortable with it!

“I believe that every organization is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, it is essential to initiate the discussion, open the conversation, analyze our practices, and not burden the manager alone with this responsibility” Par

How to approach the discussion on mental health and the right to disconnect at work?

According to Habi, it is essential to be able to identify workplace discomforts and name them to better seek help from the appropriate individuals. As an employer, it is necessary to provide an open environment where it is possible to have discussions, and where employees are encouraged to take care of themselves.
