The status quo in transportation costs us $1,500 a year. Per person. And that's cause for concern!

That is why the business, environmental, and public health communities are speaking with one voice: an open letter co-signed by more than 20 organizations was published in La Presse last Thursday, on the sidelines of the Montreal Climate Summit.

The message is clear: the Quebec government must follow through on its 2030 Sustainable Mobility Policy and secure federal funding for public transit. While other provinces are ramping up projects, Montreal is seeing 46% of its metro assets deteriorate, despite handling 800,000 trips per day.

This is not an ideological issue, but a necessity “to reduce our emissions while supporting the local economy and contributing to the well-being of the population.” Furthermore, as the open letter states, sustainable mobility plays a major role in health prevention and in reducing social inequalities.

The JCCM, represented by our Executive Director Marie-Krystine Longpré, is proud to have joined this coalition alongside Partenariat Climat Montréal, Fondaction, Copticom, Fondaction du Grand Montréal, Vivre en ville, Énergir, the STM, Équiterre, and many others.
