Tariff tensions with the United States are opening the door to greater free trade between Canadian provinces. What if this were an opportunity to standardize a number of practices, including container deposits? By standardizing deposits on dozens, if not hundreds, of containers, many of them would be returned rather than sent for recycling or disposal.

With just a few weeks to go before his departure, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Wednesday the start of the high-speed train (TGV) project between Quebec City and Toronto. A contract will soon be signed with the Cadence consortium, whose mandate will be to bring this rail service, dubbed Alto, to fruition. If completed, the network will be almost 1,000 km long, and electric trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 300 km/h on dedicated tracks, with stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montreal, Laval, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City.

Even before Quebec releases its caps on international student enrolment, applications from outside the country are plummeting at some universities. This is what emerges from the responses obtained by The Canadian Press, which asked the universities with the highest proportions of international students whether the mere threat of imposing ceilings is already having an impact before they are announced.

There has never been a law against black people voting in Canada or Quebec. In fact, Blacks have been voting here since the 1820s. However, few of them exercised their right to vote, because you had to be a property owner to do so, and there weren't many black property owners in Montreal at the time.
